Renee LaRock-Gary, LMHC is a co-founder of The Storm Initiative and serves as Director of Services. With over 30 years of experience in mental health and human services, she has dedicated her career to supporting survivors of trauma, including sexual violence, intimate partner violence, and domestic abuse. Renee is a licensed mental health counselor in New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts, with extensive experience across outpatient and inpatient settings, crisis response, and community-based programs. She has spent more than a decade in leadership roles within sexual assault services, working directly with survivors while also developing programs, supervising clinicians, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. In addition to her clinical work, Renee is an experienced educator and trainer. She has designed and delivered trauma-informed trainings for professionals across healthcare, education, and social service systems. Her work focuses on helping others understand the impact of trauma on the brain and body, improving responses to survivors, and promoting prevention through education. Renee is passionate about bridging the gap between clinical knowledge and real-world application. Through The Storm Initiative, she is committed to increasing access to trauma-informed education, strengthening community awareness, and supporting survivors through connection, resources, and advocacy. Her approach is grounded in compassion, evidence-based practice, and the belief that healing is possible for every survivor.
